IG Kanja officially opens senior criminal investigations officers’ seminar

The Inspector General of the National Police Service, Mr. Douglas Kanja, on Monday May 19, 2025, officially opened the Senior Criminal Investigations Officers’ Seminar at the National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA) in Nairobi.

He was received by the Director of Criminal Investigations, Mr. Mohammed Amin, accompanied by the Commandant of NCIA, Mr. Sospeter Munyi, SAIG.

Established in 1974 by the then Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hinga, the NCIA has grown to become a centre of excellence in investigative training for officers across the National Police Service (NPS).

The academy gained regional acclaim after being voted the Regional Centre of Excellence in 2014.

The seminar, hosting 40 senior commanders heading Regional and County Criminal Investigation Offices as well as section heads across the country, is designed to facilitate the exchange of ideas and strategies among top investigative leaders. The forum aims to address the evolving challenges posed by modern crime through a collaborative and innovative approach.

In his address, IG Kanja underscored the vital role of the commanders, which goes beyond leadership and management. He urged them to be champions of integrity and professional ethics, advocates of collaborative investigative approaches, adopters of modern technological tools, and practitioners of humane and ethical investigations.

He further reaffirmed his firm commitment to strengthening the DCI’s institutional capacity, ensuring operational independence, and promoting the recognition and rewarding of investigative excellence.
