It is a sigh of relief for 56 families who were displaced by Mai Mahiu floods tragedy, following a move spearheaded by County Government of Nakuru to have them get rental houses as a short term solution.
On Saturday evening, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika was joined by MPs Jayne Kihara (Naivasha), and Martha Wangari (Gilgil) and Maai Mahiu MCA Kamau to see off the families from the camp into their rental houses.
“We jointly saw off 56 displaced families that have left the camp and will be going into rental homes,” stated Kihika.
The leaders saw them off with starter kits of food items and non-food items aiming to address their immediate needs as a more comprehensive long-term plan is being developed.
The items includes mattresses, blankets, sheets, towels, kitchen utensils, rice, beans wheat and maize flour, cooking oil, soap, clothes, diapers, sanitary towels and jikos that will greatly support these families in ensuring they have enough food and basic necessities.
According to Kihika, relocation efforts are already underway to ensure that everyone will have shelter.
The leaders later joined JCM Church led by Rev Ben Kiengei in preparing lunch for all the displaced families at the camp.
The clergy also brought with them various donations for the families.
