Former senior CBK official on spot over grabbed land in Naivasha

Residents of Ndabibi in Naivasha Sub County have raised alarm over rising cases of land grab in the area.

Addressing media on Tuesday after holding peaceful demonstrations over 1004-acres piece of land that they claim has been grabbed by former senior CBK official in the country.

According to documents that the residents have, the land is part of the 2504 acres piece of land that belonged to a white settler before they purchased the land in 1975 under Ndabithi Land Company through a mortgage and lease.

The land was then transferred to them from the white settler.

The locals say they were shocked to wake up and find the1004-acres piece of land fenced off by the alleged grabber.

A visit to the area, the land is under armed police officers from Kongoni Police station who at one particular time had to lob teargas to keep away the irate residents.

The locals led by Peter Njoroge Kimani also blamed the local administrators for colluding with police to intimidate them.

They are now calling on the government through the Ministry of Lands and National Lands Commission to intervene in the matter and ensure justice is served.

“Our fathers lived here and this land belongs to us but there are some individuals who have grabbed the land through corrupt means. The local chief has been using the police to intimidate us. We now want the government to tell us the truth over this land” said Njoroge.

Sentiments echoed by Mr.Joshua Manyasi who has been living in the area since 1987.His appeal is for the government to find a lasting solution surrounding the land.

“The government has no otherwise but to find a lasting solution to this matter” said Manyasi.

Our attempts to reach out to the former CBK senior official over the matter was futile. However area MCA Gathariki Kamanu in an interview stated that through county government of Nakuru intervention, an ad hoc committee has been formed to look into the matter.

“We already have an ad-hoc committee in place that will look into the matter so that a lasting solution can be reached” said the MCA.
